About me

I am a mom with 5 wonderful children. I have been with my spouse for 12 years, and he was active duty military when we met. This has allowed me to develop an understanding of living both military and civilian life. Our family has also experienced wartime trauma.

Not only am I part of the LGBTQIA+ community myself, but I have both personal and professional experience with gender non-conforming persons and other members of the community.

I have a very strong  love of books and learning, which leads me to always looking to better myself through knowledge and experiences. I believe mental health treatment is for everyone, including myself! Life is a journey and we are always growing, changing, and in need of support.

Professional

I believe that there is no "perfect therapy" for everyone. I feel that using an eclectic approach— drawing from different therapeutic approaches based on the needs of the individuals— is the best way to help you through whatever is facing you at that moment. I believe that therapy is fluid, not straightforward. I will work with you by meeting you where you are currently on your path, and helping guide you in the direction you want to go based upon your goals and plans.  No one knows your issues or how to fix them better than you do; sometimes you just need a little guidance on the way, and that is what I work to do during our time together.

I believe that everyone has the opportunity to live their best life, but sometimes life may get in the way and we may struggle to do so. My goal is to help you through those struggles, and there is no greater feeling for you than when you come out on the other side of your struggle stronger and happier than before

Resume

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of Maryland. I graduated from the University of Southern California with a Masters degree in Social Work; a concentration on Families and Children; and a sub-concentration of Military Social Work.

I've spent my career working in an outpatient substance use clinic and currently work as a private practice therapist. I have experience in facilitating group, individual, and family sessions with adolescents and adults for: substance use issues; depression; anxiety; self-harm; trauma; coping with stress; managing life changes; anger management; relationship struggles; low self-esteem; communication issues; and more. I specialize in trauma, depression, anxiety, and all that comes with those issues. I also work with individuals and families in the LGBTQIA+ community.

The Writer

I'm Ashton Rose, a freelance writer, editor, and blogger. I strive to create work that is unique, informative, and fun to read. The work I do with THJ is very important to me, as I struggle every day with mental illness and mental health problems. I look forward to sharing my insights with you all, and hope that my work will help at least some of you in your mental health journey.

In my personal writings, I write magical realism, speculative fiction, horror, poetry, and creative nonfiction. I write about things that are important to me, and I love delving into the depths of the human psyche. I am also an avid gardener, pet owner, baker, gamer, and Minecraft architect.
